Children's Programming

The Children's Programming Committee of the Woodstock Fine Arts Association offers programs to McHenry County school children, Grades 1-8, featuring art, music, and theatre. The programs we sponsor encourage all children in public, private, and home schools to appreciate and support the arts today and in the future. A trip to the historic Woodstock Opera House makes the program all the more memorable.

In October 2012 the Woodstock Fine Arts Association entertained 1600 children with the return of the popular improvisational troupe, Novel Ideas. This show "On Stage" featured favorite stories chosen by area students. Thanks to a generous grant from the McHenry County Community Foundation, the WFAA was able to afford funding for buses for some area schools and still produce the four performances.

Some students were chosen from the audience to participate on stage, which added to the improv spirit of the performances. Many WFAA Board members wore costumes from classic children's stories when greeting the students. From the excited students waiting outside the Opera House to the last bow on stage – McHenry County school students had a great time at "On Stage."
